The WalesYFC National Eisteddfod will be held at Rhyl Pavilion, Rhyl on Saturday 19th of November, hosted by the Clwyd Federation. The event is being sponsored byDenbighshireCounty Council with Tegni, a Renewable Energy Company sponsoring the Eisteddfod Chair and prizes.
The Eisteddfod is part of the Wales YFC social education programmes which aims to provide skills, recreational opportunities and confidence to YFC members in a wide range of areas - especially rural skills, Welsh culture, sport and traditional crafts. During the day, more than 700 members, aged between 10 and 26, will attend the event to display their varying talents by competing in all sorts of competitions - both on and off the stage. Being a bilingual event, members can compete in Welsh or English, giving everyone a chance to participate.
Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, Denbighshire’s Leader, Councillor Hugh Evans said: “Denbighshire is delighted to sponsor this prestigious event in the Young Farmers’ calendar and we very much look forward to welcoming all competitors to our county.
“This Eisteddfod provides a platform for young people from across Wales to show the rest of the country the wealth of cultural talent that exists in our communities.”
The chair, sponsored by Tegni has been made by Iolo Puw, from Parc near Bala and will be awarded for the best entry from the short story and poem competitions. Speaking on behalf of Tegni, Huw Smallwood states;
“We are delighted to have the privilege of sponsoring the Wales YFC Eisteddfod Chair and prizes. The organisation is active in supporting young people and their local businesses and their efforts to diversify in times of need to support their livelihood in Rural Wales. Renewable energy has also got a lot to offer in order to support the local economies, and therefore we can be of mutual benefit for these young people.”
The winners of all competitions, both on and off stage, will win special prize also sponsored by Tegni, and crafted from wood by David Howey, Deeside.
“I am looking forward to welcoming members from all overWalesto the Wales YFC Eisteddfod. It will be a fantastic day of competing with a wide range of competitions, ranging from the traditional competitions that we have come to expect, to more modern, light-hearted competitions, which are always guaranteed to raise a smile. Starting at 10.30am, the Eisteddfod will probably continue until the early hours of Sunday morning,” said Heledd Owen, Wales YFC Eisteddfod committee chairman.
“For those who can not make the journey to Rhyl, don’t worry - BBC Radio Cymru will be broadcasting from the Eisteddfod, and all of the excitement can be found live on the BBC Cymru website during the day, and live on Radio Cymru from 7.30pm onwards. Telesgop and Rondo Media will also be broadcasting live on television on behalf of S4C from 6.10pm – 8.30pm and again from 9.30pm – until the end, which will include highlights of the day up until the choir competition and results which will be broadcast live. I would like to thank both the BBC and S4C, and everyone involved in the preparations, for what promises to be a very successful Eisteddfod. I’m sure that we are, once again this year, in for a treat by the multi-talented members of the movement.”
