Young Innovator Award

17/11/2011

The Young Innovator award sponsored by the world renowned energy company, Dulas, will be presented on Monday at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair.

The competition is facilitated by Wales YFC, with support from the Countryside Council of Wales (CCW) and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and aims to encourage young people to think and implement innovative ways of helping the environments.

"Wales is blessed in abundance with the natural resources that drive renewable energy solutions. Dulas are today engaging more and more with the agricultural sector, particularly with the installation of single medium scale wind turbines as the Feed-in Tariffs bring sound commercial opportunities to the farming community. I know that being involved with the Young Innovator award will not only help us to understand the priorities for these young farmers but also to help us engage with the entrepreneurs that exist in this sector. Dulas were also very pleased to be given the chance to work closely with the CCW and YFC, in looking for sensitive and appropriate developments which will help unlock the potential that our natural resources deliver on a daily basis in Wales.” said Mike Clay on behalf of Dulas.

Dic Jones, Royal Welsh Agricultural Society President for 2011 will present the overall winner with £1,000 and £200 will be presented to the runner up on Monday the 28th of November.

Morgan Parry, CCW Chairman said: "It's becoming increasingly important for society to make the most of our natural resources as we strive to create a greener, more sustainable future. I'm delighted to support this pioneering scheme that will reward good practice and, as it develops, encourage many others to consider what natural resources their businesses could use efficiently and effectively. And the benefits will be twofold - not only does innovation with natural resources offer a more sustainable future, it can also bring economic value to businesses as well."

Wales YFC Rural Affairs Chairman, Marc Jones stated: “This award recognises the efforts of the young farmers that are ensuring a sustainable future for farming in Wales. Welsh farmers are role models in utilising natural resources and the applicants in this competition were all excellent examples of the practises farmers are undertaking on their farms in order to improve their business”
