What is the competition all about?

Bovine Viral Diarrhoea (BVD) is a hot topic for the livestock industry at the moment because it is such an economically significant disease. We have teamed up with Allflex and Bovela to bring you the BVD Marketing Challenge – it’s a competition exclusively for our members that requires participating teams to design a marketing communications campaign which will raise awareness of BVD and the ways it can be eradicated from the welsh herd.

What do we have to do?

You need to think about the best ways of communicating these messages to livestock farmers and tell us – you might want to write a report, create a poster or infographic or even make a video – it’s entirely up to you!

We don’t really know anything about marketing, will we be able to take part?

Of course you will. You don’t need to be a marketer to devise a marketing communications campaign (although the marketing people would probably say you do!). Marketing is all around us; every time you open a newspaper or magazine, every time you visit a website, every time you use Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram and every time you go to your local vets, auction market or country store you are constantly the target of a marketing communications campaign. Have a think about some of the best TV adverts you’ve seen or magazine adverts that persuaded you to buy something – why was this and how did the company really get their message to you?

Why should my club take part?

As well as learning about BVD and the ways in which you can help to protect your herd, you’ll have the chance to win one of two cash prizes totalling £1000, learn some new skills (which will look great on your CV or UCAS application) and, everyone who takes part gets a goody bag!

3) If you are visiting the Rural Affairs Conference on Saturday 13th January find out more by speaking to the Allflex/Bovela team
4) Look out for your challenge pack which will be sent to the address you register
5) Follow the Facebook page and Twitter account for handy tips and hints and details of how to submit your entry by the 5th March 2018

How long do we have to prepare our campaign?

The closing date for entries to be received by us is 5th March 2018. Teams should spend between 10 and 20 hours (collectively not per team member) preparing their entries.

What is the prize?

First prize is £700, second prize is £300.

How many people can be in a team?

There can be a maximum of ten people per team but there is to be only one team per club.

Don’t be stuck - teams can post questions or queries on the Facebook or Twitter pages and someone from the Allflex/Bovela team will be in touch to help.
