Audiences from all over Wales gathered at the Princess Royal Theatre in Port Talbot over the first weekend in March for the Wales YFC Entertainment Feast. It was the entertainment competition this year, and we had various performances from 13 clubs over the two days.

On Saturday, we held the Welsh language drama competition, with 6 clubs competing for the title of best performance.

The Judge, Mr Iwan John, placed Talybont YFC, Ceredigion as the winners, for their performance of “Cynulleidfa gyda 2”, and noted that this was a slick productions with all acts being a high standard and full of life. In second place, she placed, Dyffryn Cothi YFC, Carmarthesnhire, whilst Llysyfran YFC, Pembrokeshire took the third position.

The award for Best Male Performer went to Dewi Jenkins, Talybont, for his performance as Dai Jones Llanilar, whilst Kathryn Watkins, Llanfair Caereinion, won the Best Female Performer for her role in ‘Cogain Llanfair ar daith…..’ The Paul Elkinson Award for best technical achievement went to Llanfair Caereinion YFC, Montgomery.

On Sunday, we had the English language entertainments, with 6 clubs competing for the title of best performance. The judge was Mrs Sue Doherty, GODA, and it was a very close competition. Llanfyllin, Montgomery won the first place with their performance of “Forever mine”. In close second place were Maendy YFC with their performance of ‘Ocean Commtion’. In third were Fishguard YFC, Pembrokeshire, ‘The Bank’. As a result, Llanfyllin will have the opportunity to represent Wales at the NFYFC final in Torquay.

The Best Male Performer went to Charles George, Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, for his performance, whilst Esme Freeman, Maendy, won the award for Best Female Performer. The winners of the Paul Elkinson Award for Best Techinical Achievement went to Penybont YFC, Radnor.

The Wales YFC Member of the Year Competition was also held on Saturday, with two panels of judges interviewing 12 members each for the title. The competition was kindly sponsored by JCP solicitors again this year, and we are very grateful for their support. The winner of the Senior Member of the Year title was Carys Thomas, Cwmann YFC, Carmarthenshire, and the Junior Member of the Year was named as Gemma Owen, Aberhafesp YFC, Montgomery. We very much look forward to working with both members over the next 12 months.
