RURAL AFFAIRS
Agriculture and Rural Affairs continues to be one of the main areas of activity for Wales YFC and what's more Wales YFC is the only National Organisation within Wales that solely represents the views of young people from rural backgrounds.
The committees discussions formulate Wales YFC responses to contemporary issues and eventually theses responses could be included in the Welsh Assembly's policies. This important part of the committees work reflects the Taking Responsibility programme of work that encourages young people to take responsibility for their own future and to take an interest in contemporary issues that affect their lives.
A number of competitions are coordinated by the committee,
Community and Environment Challenge; Wales YFC NatWest Enterprise Scheme and the Welsh Livery Guild Young Farmers Award
The committee is also responsible for numerous regional visits and other activities that are held throughout the year.
A special event was held in April 2008, "Adding Strength to the Mix". The day had been planned to explore and expand on opportunities in farming. During the day the "Breaking New Ground" booklet was launched. The booklet full of experiences of some of rural Wales' enterprising young people. Click here to read about those that have ventured.
Another line of the committees work is the database for opportunity. This database was set up to try and link young farmers in Wales with any opportunities that are available to get in to agriculture. The database is also a way of creating links with those farmers that have opportunities to offer. If you would like to know about farming opportunities in Wales or if you have an opportunity to offer a young farmer please click here.
